Most 3G modems including MTN Fastlink, Glo 3G Dongle, Zain Data card are all locked to the network providers.This really sucks... If for example you are using MTN Fastlink modem and there is network problem, you will not be able to access the internet at all because you will not be able to use any other SIM card with your modem.

There are softwares out there that you can use. UNIVERSAL GOLD PLUS  and LOCK BOX 2.0 are the commonly used unlocking boxes out there. If you have the bucks, you can get easily get them from computer stores. Computer Village in Lagos and Abuja  Nigeria is a sure place to go if you need any of the boxes.

If you want to be making money by unlocking 3G modems and Mobile Phones for people, then, you can buy any of the two but if you just want to unlock your own modem, it won't make sense because of the price in range.

So, How Does it work?

To unlock your modem, the unlocker will need the IMEI Number of your modem. You can easily find this on the paper pack of your modem. If you don't know the IMEI number, the unlocking box or any unlocking software can AUTO DETECT it for you as soon as the modem is connected to the unlocking box.

Once you supply your IMEI number to the unlocking box  it will generate your UNLOCKING CODE for you. Once you have the unlocking code, write it or save it somewhere.

Then, insert ANOTHER SIM card (apart from the original network SIM Card that originally works with it) into your modem. You will be prompted with popup bar to fill in the Unlock code. (It usually gives 10 attempts). Just input the Unlock Code. That's All.

Thereafter, you can insert any SIM Card of any network you want to use. All you have to do is to create a new profile and input the settings for that network and connect to the internet. There is no side-effect.
